Wired – The future of the shirt is changing, as designers are taking inspiration from traditional fabrics and styles, and looking for ways to make it more wearable.
And, as the world moves to a climate where clothing is becoming more comfortable and comfortable, the possibilities for shirt designs are endless.
“I think that there’s a new trend, and it’s a trend that I think we’re going to see in the next five to 10 years,” says Matt Taylor, a designer and founder of fashion brand Hawaiians.
“I think it’s something that’s been really interesting to watch.
The fact that a company that is doing things like this, the way they’re designing their shirts, it’s like, ‘Wow, it can be done.’
I don’t know how many other companies have done this, but they’ve made a huge statement that this is something that you can do.”
Taylor started making shirts in 2006 and has since been making shirts for the likes of Nike and Under Armour, as well as clothing brands like Old Navy and Burberry.
He has also designed shirts for clothing brands including Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger.
But his new company, Hawaiis Shirt Co., wants to change that.
“We want to create something that feels like a shirt, that feels authentic,” Taylor says.
“If you look at the design of the shirts, they’re not just a bunch of buttons and some of the fabrics are actually not very natural.
They’re really soft and they’re really pretty.
We’re not trying to make these shirts to look cool or make them look fashionable, we’re just trying to create shirts that feel like they’re made of real fabric.”
For Hawaiias Shirt Co. to truly change the way people wear shirts, Taylor and his team are taking their inspiration from a lot of different places.
“We’re not the only ones that are making shirts,” Taylor explains.
“It’s interesting to see how other people are looking at shirts and the fashion industry, and they’ve come up with their own way of doing it.
We think we can do a lot with our own ideas, but we’re also interested in the fact that people like them, so we’re trying to find the best way to create them.”
One of Taylor’s primary influences is the Hawaiia Shirt Co, which is one of the few outfits that Taylor makes that he has seen fit for every client.
“There’s a few other companies that I’ve worked with, and I think the most important thing for me is that they’re the ones that have really, really good design,” he says.
Taylor believes Hawaiiams shirt design is based on the way a shirt should look.
“If you put a lot on the chest, it should look like a sweater.
If you put more on the back, it shouldn’t look like you’re wearing a jacket.
It should look just like a dress shirt,” he explains.
The company has even been designing shirts for women in the past, and has even worked with brands like Gap and Calvin Klein.
Taylor says Hawaiim’s shirts are also designed to be worn in a variety of ways.
“When you’re buying a shirt from Hawaii’s, they really try to do their research.
They really do their homework.
They look at how people wear their shirts,” he points out.
Hawaiims shirt is also available in a range of different colors, and Taylor is also working on a range for men, including a “modern” version that will have “something that will work for guys, but not women.”
Taylor says his company’s shirts can be worn as a daily wear, as an outfit for casual occasions, or even as a summer wardrobe accessory.
“When you look back at the shirt that we made for Under Armour when they were releasing their summer-ready jacket, I thought it was amazing,” Taylor tells Wired.
“The shirt looked so great.
I thought, ‘That’s what I’m going to do for the next time I go to a big party.’
I think that’s something we’re all going to start doing more of in the future.”
For Taylor, the Hawaii shirts have been a lot more than just a design project.
He says he wants to use his company to help people get involved in the fashion community.
“It’s something I think really makes the brand special, and that’s what the shirts are for.
I think it really speaks to what we’re about, and how we’re different from other brands.
And that’s really important,” he adds.
“People who love the company and like what we do can also support the company with donations, which helps us keep the shirts going.”
Taylor says that Hawaiits shirts will be available for purchase in stores starting in the fall of 2018.
